B. PARIS (FRANCE). lives and work BETWEEN PARIS (FRANCE) AND dakar (senegal)

Naomi Lulendo is a French-Guadeloupean-Congolese artist based between Paris and Lyon in France, and Dakar, Senegal. Naomi Lulendo, born in 1994 in France, is a Franco-Guadeloupean-Congolese artist. From photography to ceramics, installation and video, she uses the concept of “ détournement ” of words, meanings, objects and identity in her work.

In her research, she investigates representations of the feminine and foreign bodies in vernacular, traditional and esoteric practices of the hand (craft, architecture) and the body (dance, performance, ritual). Her artistic work focuses on observing the aesthetic and symbolic links between body, garment and architecture, considered respectively as first, second and third skins. Here, she explores the individual, collective, social and political implications of human mobility and cultural encounters. Interested in cosmologies, particularly voodoo cosmology, she draws from the language, tales, and aesthetics of her Creole and African origins.
